Ingredients

For the chicken wings:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the hot honey rub:

  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed chili flakes
  • Pinch of salt

Optional garnish:

  • Chopped parsley
  • Extra honey drizzle

Instructions

Prepare the chicken wings

  • Pat the chicken wings dry using paper towels. Removing moisture helps create crispy skin while baking. Place the wings into a large bowl. Add baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss well until every wing gets coated evenly with the seasoning mixture.

Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F or 220°C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper for easier cleanup. Place a wire rack over the tray if available. This allows hot air to move around the wings evenly and helps create crispier texture during baking.

Arrange the wings properly

  • Place the wings on the tray in a single layer. Leave small spaces between them for even cooking. Avoid overcrowding because crowded wings become soft instead of crispy. Proper spacing helps each wing cook evenly and develop golden crispy edges.

Bake until crispy

  • Bake the wings for about 35 to 40 minutes. Flip them halfway through cooking for even crispiness. The skin should become golden brown and slightly crunchy. Crispy wings hold the hot honey rub much better and create restaurant-style texture at home.

Prepare the hot honey sauce

  • While the wings bake, melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add honey, brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chili flakes and salt. Stir gently until smooth. The mixture should smell sweet, smoky and slightly spicy.

Coat the wings

  • Remove the crispy wings from the oven carefully. Place them in a large clean bowl. Pour the hot honey rub mixture over the wings slowly. Toss gently using tongs until every wing gets covered evenly with the sticky flavorful coating.

Let the flavors settle

  • Allow the coated wings to rest for about two minutes before serving. This helps the sauce cling better to the crispy skin. The sweet honey glaze slowly thickens while the spices settle beautifully into every crispy bite.

Garnish and serve

  • Place the wings onto a serving platter. Drizzle extra honey lightly on top if desired. Sprinkle chopped parsley for color and freshness. Serve immediately while hot and crispy. The wings taste best fresh with dipping sauces and cold drinks nearby.

Notes

  • Use an air fryer for extra crispy wings
  • Add more cayenne for stronger heat
  • Use smoked paprika for smoky flavor
  • Marinate wings overnight for deeper taste
  • Drizzle extra honey before serving
  • Add lemon juice for brightness
  • Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing
