Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 6 black tea bags
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Lemon slices for garnish optional
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

Boil the Water

  • Pour 6 cups of water into a large pot. Heat over medium-high heat until it starts boiling. This step ensures the tea leaves release full flavor.

Add Tea Bags

  • Once the water is boiling, remove the pot from heat. Add 6 black tea bags. Let them steep for 5–8 minutes depending on how strong you like your tea. Stir gently.

Sweeten the Tea

  • Remove the tea bags carefully. Add 1 ½ cups of sugar while the tea is still hot. Stir until fully dissolved. You can adjust sugar to taste if you prefer less sweetness.

Add Vanilla (Optional)

  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir gently. Vanilla adds smooth, warm notes similar to the restaurant version.

Cool the Tea

  • Let the tea cool down to room temperature for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a pitcher. Cooling before refrigerating helps maintain clarity and flavor.

Serve Over Ice

  • Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the sweet tea over the ice. Garnish with lemon slices if desired. This step makes the tea refreshing and perfect for hot days.

Store Extra Tea

  • Keep any leftover tea in the refrigerator. It can last up to 3–4 days. Stir before serving to maintain consistent sweetness and flavor.

Notes

  • Use filtered water for the best flavor.
  • Adjust steeping time for stronger or lighter tea.
  • Replace sugar with honey or agave syrup for natural sweetness.
  • Add fresh mint for a refreshing twist.
  • Use lemon or orange slices for citrus flavor.
  • For iced tea parties, serve in a clear pitcher to show off color.
