Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

Instructions

Prepare the oven and pan

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F or 175°C. Grease a loaf pan lightly with butter or cooking spray. Preparing the pan first helps the banana bread bake evenly and prevents sticking after baking. This step makes removing the loaf much easier later.

Mash the bananas

  • Place ripe bananas into a large mixing bowl. Mash them well using a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth. Small banana pieces are perfectly fine. Very ripe bananas create sweeter flavor and softer texture inside the finished banana bread loaf.

Mix the dry ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Stir everything together evenly. These dry ingredients help the bread rise properly while creating soft structure. Cinnamon also adds gentle warmth and comforting bakery-style flavor to every slice.

Combine wet ingredients

  • Add melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and milk into the mashed bananas. Stir slowly until smooth and combined. The butter adds moisture while brown sugar creates rich sweetness. Vanilla helps balance the banana flavor beautifully throughout the bread.

Add dry mixture to wet ingredients

  • Slowly pour the dry ingredients into the banana mixture while stirring gently. Mix until just combined without overmixing. Overmixing can make banana bread dense instead of soft. The batter should look thick, creamy, and slightly lumpy before baking.

Fold in optional mix-ins

  • Add chopped walnuts or chocolate chips if desired. Fold them gently into the batter using a spoon or spatula. Walnuts add crunch while chocolate chips create sweet rich bites. These additions make homemade banana bread even more comforting and flavorful.

Pour batter into loaf pan

  • Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan carefully. Spread it evenly using a spoon or spatula. The batter should sit evenly across the pan for proper baking. Smooth the top gently to help the loaf bake with beautiful shape.

Bake until golden

  • Place the loaf pan into the preheated oven carefully. Bake for about 50 to 55 minutes until golden brown. Insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out mostly clean, the banana bread is fully baked and ready to cool.

Cool and serve

  • Remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool for about 15 minutes. Transfer carefully onto a cooling rack afterward. Slice once slightly cooled and serve warm if desired. The bread tastes extra comforting with butter or honey spread lightly.

Notes

  • Use extra ripe bananas for sweeter flavor
  • Add pecans instead of walnuts
  • Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top before baking
  • Use dark chocolate chips for richer taste
  • Do not overmix the batter
  • Let bread cool before slicing
  • Add shredded coconut for tropical flavor
