Ingredients

For the Meatloaf

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley chopped

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • A few drops hot sauce

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preparing the pan first makes the process easier and prevents sticking later.

Soak the Bread

  • Place the bread slices in a large bowl. Pour the milk over them. Let the bread soak for several minutes. This creates a soft mixture that helps keep the meatloaf tender and moist.

Add the Seasonings

  • Add the diced onion, eggs, parsley, salt, pepper and seasoned salt to the soaked bread. Stir everything together until the ingredients are evenly combined and well distributed throughout the mixture.

Mix in the Ground Beef

  • Add the ground beef to the bowl. Use clean hands or a spoon to mix gently. Do not overmix. Mixing too much can make the meatloaf dense instead of tender.

Shape the Meatloaf

  • Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared pan. Shape it into a loaf if using a baking sheet. Press gently so it holds together while baking but remains light.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, mustard powder and hot sauce. Stir until smooth. This glaze adds a sweet and tangy flavor that makes the meatloaf extra delicious.

Add the First Layer of Glaze

  • Spread one-third of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf. Use a spoon or brush to cover the surface. This layer starts building flavor while baking.

Bake the Meatloaf

  • Place the meatloaf in the oven and bake for 45 minutes. During this time, the meat cooks through while the flavors blend together beautifully.

Add More Glaze

  • Remove the meatloaf from the oven carefully. Spread another layer of glaze over the top. Return it to the oven and continue baking for 15 more minutes.

Rest and Serve

  • Remove the meatloaf from the oven when the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Resting helps keep the juices inside the meat.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for the best flavor.
  • Avoid overmixing the meat mixture.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing.
  • Add minced garlic for extra flavor.
  • Mix in shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Use ground turkey instead of beef.
  • Add diced bell peppers for color.
  • Make mini meatloaf portions.
  • Use barbecue sauce instead of ketchup glaze.
  • Add Italian seasoning for a different flavor profile.
