For the Shortbread Base:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter soft
- 1/4 cup sugar
For the Caramel Layer:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 can 400g condensed milk
For the Chocolate Layer:
- 1 cup milk chocolate chopped or chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
Make the Shortbread Dough
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and butter. Use your fingers or a spoon. Keep mixing until it looks like soft crumbs. Press the mixture into the tray evenly. Make sure the surface is flat and smooth.
Cook the Caramel
In a saucepan, add butter, brown sugar and condensed milk. Cook on low heat. Keep stirring all the time. After a few minutes, the mixture thickens and turns golden. This takes about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate for a richer taste.
- Add a pinch of sea salt on top for salted caramel flavor.
- Chill each layer properly for clean layers.
- Do not rush caramel cooking. Stir slowly for best texture.
- Use a warm knife for smooth cutting.
- Add crushed nuts on top for extra crunch.
