Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup raisins
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened

For the Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes. It should become foamy. This shows the yeast is active and ready to use.

Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt. Add egg, butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms. It may feel sticky at first.

Knead the Dough

  • Place the dough on a clean surface. Knead for about 10 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic. This step helps create soft buns.

First Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for one hour. It should double in size.

Roll the Dough

  • Punch down the dough gently. Roll it into a rectangle shape using a rolling pin. Keep the thickness even for best results.

Add Filling

  • Spread softened butter over the dough. Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins evenly. This creates the sweet and fruity filling.

Shape the Buns

  • Roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into equal slices. Place slices on a lined baking tray. Leave space between each piece.

Second Rise

  • Cover the tray and let buns rise again for 30–40 minutes. They will become soft and puffy. This step gives light texture.

Bake the Buns

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for about 20 minutes. The buns should turn golden brown on top.

Prepare the Glaze

  • In a small saucepan, heat sugar and water. Stir until sugar dissolves. This creates a simple syrup glaze.

Brush and Serve

  • Brush the warm buns with glaze. This gives a shiny and sticky finish. Let them cool slightly and serve fresh.

Notes

  • Add orange zest for fresh flavor
  • Use mixed dried fruits instead of raisins
  • Brush egg wash before baking for shine
  • Add nuts for crunch
  • Do not overbake to keep buns soft
  • Use icing sugar glaze for sweeter topping
