Ingredients

  • Halloumi cheese – 250 grams
  • Olive oil – 3 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic cloves – 2 minced
  • Dried oregano – 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika – ½ teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Chili flakes – ¼ teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley – 2 tablespoons chopped

Instructions

Slice the Halloumi

  • Cut halloumi into thick slices. Keep them even for best cooking and golden color.

Make the Marinade

  • Mix olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, spices and herbs in a bowl.

Marinate the Cheese

  • Place halloumi in marinade. Coat both sides well. Let rest for ten minutes.

Heat the Pan

  • Heat a grill pan or skillet on medium heat until hot.

Cook the Halloumi

  • Place slices in pan. Cook each side until golden and crisp.

Rest Before Serving

  • Remove halloumi from pan. Let it rest for one minute before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for bright flavor.
  • Do not over-marinate or cheese turns too salty.
  • Add honey for a sweet contrast.
  • Use thyme or rosemary instead of oregano.
  • Grill outdoors for smoky taste.
  • Add olives to the marinade for depth.
