Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 medium cabbage chopped
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

Prepare the Pork

  • Pat the pork dry using paper towels. Rub it evenly with salt and black pepper. This helps build a strong base of flavor before cooking.

Add Liquid Smoke

  • Drizzle liquid smoke over the pork. This gives the dish its traditional smoky flavor. Make sure the pork is coated evenly.

Place in Slow Cooker

  • Put the pork into the slow cooker. Add water around it. Cover with the lid and set to low heat.

Cook Slowly

  • Cook the pork for 6–8 hours on low. The long cooking time makes the meat very tender and juicy.

Shred the Pork

  • Once cooked, remove the pork and shred it using two forks. The meat should fall apart easily.

Add Cabbage

  • Place chopped cabbage into the slow cooker with the juices. Add the shredded pork back on top.

Cook Until Soft

  • Cook for another 30–40 minutes until the cabbage is soft. It will absorb the flavor from the pork.

Mix and Serve

  • Mix everything gently. Serve hot and enjoy the rich and comforting flavors of this dish.

Notes

  • Use banana leaves for authentic flavor if available
  • Add garlic for extra taste
  • Use a pressure cooker to save time
  • Add carrots for color and sweetness
  • Adjust salt to your taste
  • Use green or napa cabbage
