  • Canned chopped tomatoes – 800 grams
  • Beef stock – 200 ml
  • Dried oregano – 1 teaspoon
  • Dried basil – 1 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Salt – to taste
  • Black pepper – to taste
  • Butter – 50 grams
  • All-purpose flour – 50 grams
  • Milk – 600 ml
  • Nutmeg – a pinch
  • Lasagne sheets – 12 sheets
  • Grated cheddar or mozzarella – 150 grams
  • Grated Parmesan – 50 grams

Instructions
  

Heat the oil gently

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery. Cook slowly until soft.

Add garlic and beef

  • Add garlic and ground beef. Stir well. Cook until the beef changes color and smells rich.

Build the sauce

  • Add tomato paste and stir. Pour in tomatoes and stock. Add herbs and bay leaf. Season gently.

Simmer patiently

  • Lower the heat. Let the sauce simmer for forty minutes. Stir sometimes. It should thicken and darken.

Make the white sauce

  • Melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour and whisk. Cook briefly. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly.

Season the sauce

  • Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook until thick and smooth. Turn off the heat.

Prepare the baking dish

  • Lightly oil your baking dish. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom.

Start layering

  • Add lasagne sheets. Spoon meat sauce on top. Add white sauce. Sprinkle a little cheese.

Repeat layers

  • Repeat layers until everything is used. Finish with white sauce and generous cheese on top.

Bake until golden

  • Bake at 180°C for forty minutes. The top should bubble and turn golden brown.

Rest before serving
