Ingredients

  • 300 g white cabbage
  • 200 g red cabbage
  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 small onion
  • 150 ml mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Wash the cabbages and carrots thoroughly. Remove any tough outer leaves from the cabbage. Peel the carrots. Finely shred both cabbages using a knife or food processor. Grate the carrots and place everything in a large mixing bowl.

Chop the Onion

  • Peel the onion and finely chop it into small pieces. The onion adds a sharp taste that balances the creaminess of the dressing. Add the chopped onion to the bowl with the cabbage and carrots.

Make the Dressing

  • In a small bowl, add mayonnaise, white wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, sugar, salt and black pepper. Whisk everything together until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Combine Vegetables and Dressing

  • Pour the dressing over the shredded vegetables. Use a spoon or spatula to mix everything well. Make sure the dressing coats all the cabbage and carrots evenly.

Chill Before Serving

  • Cover the bowl with cling film or a lid. Place the coleslaw in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps the flavors blend and makes the coleslaw more refreshing. Serve cold.

Notes

  • Use red and white cabbage for a colorful coleslaw.
  • Add a small apple for sweetness and extra crunch.
  • Use low-fat mayonnaise to make a lighter version.
  • Try Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise for tanginess.
  • Add a sprinkle of celery seeds for authentic flavor.
