Ingredients

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 250 g shrimp peeled and cleaned
  • 1 cup green peas fresh or frozen
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Chop the onion and garlic into small pieces. Clean the shrimp well. If using frozen peas, keep them ready. Measure all ingredients before cooking to save time.

Heat the Oil

  • Place a large pot on medium heat. Add olive oil and let it warm. Do not overheat. Warm oil helps cook the onions evenly.

Cook Onion and Garlic

  • Add chopped onion to the pot. Cook until soft and slightly golden. Add garlic and cook for one minute. Stir gently to avoid burning.

Add Shrimp

  • Place shrimp into the pot. Cook for 2–3 minutes. Turn them once. They should turn pink and slightly firm. Do not overcook.

Add Orzo Pasta

  • Add orzo to the pot. Stir well to coat it in oil and flavors. This step adds a rich taste to the pasta.

Pour in Broth

  • Add broth slowly to the pot. Stir everything well. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. The orzo will cook in this liquid.

Add Peas and Spices

  • Add peas, salt, pepper and paprika. Stir to mix evenly. Reduce heat and let it simmer. This helps the flavors blend together nicely.

Cook Until Soft

  • Let the mixture cook for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. The orzo will absorb the broth and become soft and creamy.

Add Lemon Juice

  • Once cooked, add fresh lemon juice. Stir gently. This adds brightness and balances the flavors perfectly.

Garnish and Serve

  • Turn off the heat. Sprinkle fresh parsley on top. Serve warm and enjoy this comforting one pot meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for best flavor
  • Add spinach for extra greens
  • Use butter instead of oil for a richer taste
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy kick
  • Replace shrimp with chicken if needed
  • Do not overcook shrimp to keep them soft
