Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk chocolate
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Cream the Butter and Sugars

  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This takes about 2–3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla

  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. This ensures even distribution of leavening agents.

Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix to keep cookies soft.

Fold in Chocolate Chips

  • Add chocolate chips and optional nuts. Fold gently using a spatula to ensure even distribution.

Shape the Cookies

  • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto prepared baking sheets. Space them about 2 inches apart.

Bake the Cookies

  • Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Centers may look slightly underbaked – they will firm as they cool.

Cool the Cookies

  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve warm for gooey chocolate chips or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment.
