Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce:

  • Ground beef – 1 pound
  • Onion – 1 medium finely chopped
  • Garlic – 2 cloves minced
  • Tomato sauce – 2 cups
  • Tomato paste – 2 tablespoons
  • Italian seasoning – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon

For the Cheese Layer:

  • Ricotta cheese – 1 cup
  • Mozzarella cheese – 2 cups shredded
  • Parmesan cheese – ½ cup grated
  • Egg – 1 lightly beaten

For the Lasagna Layers:

  • Lasagna noodles – 9 cooked according to package instructions

Instructions
  

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray.

Cook the Ground Beef

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook until meat is browned.

Add Tomato Sauce and Paste

  • Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Simmer 10 minutes for flavors to combine.

Mix Cheese Layer

  • In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan and beaten egg. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Prepare Noodles

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a clean towel to prevent sticking.

Assemble First Layer

  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 noodles on top evenly.

Add Cheese Layer

  • Spread one-third of the cheese mixture over noodles. Top with a layer of meat sauce.

Repeat Layers

  • Repeat noodles, cheese and meat sauce two more times. End with a final layer of mozzarella on top.

Cover and Bake

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Cool and Serve

  • Allow lasagna to cool 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy a comforting homemade meal.
