Ingredients

  • 500 g fresh green beans trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest optional
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil optional for extra flavor

Instructions

Prepare the Green Beans

  • Wash green beans under cold water. Trim the ends carefully. Pat dry with a towel. Fresh green beans taste best.

Blanch the Beans

  • Bring a saucepan of salted water to boil. Add green beans and cook 3–4 minutes. They should be bright green and slightly tender. Drain immediately.

Sauté the Garlic

  • Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic. Cook gently for 1–2 minutes. Do not burn the garlic.

Cook the Green Beans

  • Add blanched green beans to skillet. Toss with garlic and butter. Cook for 3–5 minutes until tender. Stir often.

Season the Beans

  • Add salt, black pepper, and optional lemon zest. Mix well. Taste and adjust seasoning. A little extra butter makes them richer.

Serve Hot

  • Transfer green beans to a serving dish. Drizzle with optional olive oil for shine. Serve immediately. They stay bright green and crisp.

Notes

  • Add slivered almonds for crunch.
  • Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
  • Use fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for extra flavor.
  • For spicier taste, add red pepper flakes.
  • Steam instead of blanching for softer beans.
  • Toss with cooked bacon bits for a smoky touch.
