Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). A hot oven helps biscuits rise fast and stay fluffy.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • Add flour, baking powder and salt to a bowl. Stir gently until everything looks mixed well.

Cut in the Butter

  • Add cold butter to the flour. Use fingers or fork to mix until crumbs look like coarse sand.

Add the Milk

  • Pour milk slowly into the bowl. Mix gently until dough forms. Do not overmix the dough.

Dust the Surface

  • Sprinkle flour on your counter. Place the dough on top. Lightly dust more flour above.

Roll the Dough

  • Roll the dough gently. Keep it about one inch thick for soft biscuits.

Cut the Biscuits

  • Use a biscuit cutter or glass. Press straight down. Do not twist the cutter.

Place on Baking Tray

  • Place biscuits on a greased tray. Let them touch slightly for soft sides.

Bake the Biscuits

  • Bake at 450°F (230°C) for 12 to 15 minutes. Tops should look golden brown.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove from oven. Let cool for five minutes. Serve warm with butter or jam.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for flaky biscuits.
  • Do not overwork the dough. Gentle hands matter.
  • Self-rising flour can replace flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Add buttermilk for richer flavor.
  • Brush tops with melted butter after baking.
  • Add shredded cheese for savory biscuits.
