Ingredients

For the Rice

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth

For the Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 2 celery stalks finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped parsley
  • Green onions

Instructions

Cook the Rice

  • Add rice and chicken broth to a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer until the rice becomes tender and fluffy.

Brown the Sausage

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground sausage and cook until browned. Break it into small pieces while cooking for an even texture.

Cook the Ground Beef

  • Add the ground beef to the skillet with the sausage. Continue cooking until fully browned. Stir occasionally to prevent large clumps from forming.

Add the Vegetables

  • Add the diced onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic to the meat mixture. Cook for several minutes until the vegetables become soft and fragrant.

Add the Seasonings

  • Sprinkle paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, black pepper, salt and cayenne pepper over the mixture. Stir thoroughly so every ingredient gets coated with flavor.

Simmer the Mixture

  • Reduce the heat slightly and allow the mixture to cook for about five minutes. This helps the spices blend with the meat and vegetables.

Fluff the Rice

  • Once the rice is cooked, fluff it gently with a fork. This separates the grains and keeps the texture light instead of sticky.

Combine Rice and Meat

  • Add the cooked rice to the skillet. Stir carefully until everything is evenly mixed. The rice should absorb the flavorful juices from the meat mixture.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the dirty rice and adjust the seasonings if needed. Add a little more pepper or salt according to your preference.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Transfer the dirty rice to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions. Serve warm and enjoy every flavorful bite.

Notes

  • Use freshly cooked rice for the best texture.
  • Add extra cayenne for more heat.
  • Try ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Include mushrooms for added flavor.
  • Use brown rice for extra fiber.
  • Add diced jalapeños for spice.
  • Stir gently to avoid mushy rice.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs.
  • Use homemade chicken broth if possible.
  • Prepare the rice ahead of time.
