Ingredients

  • 500 g carrots peeled and cut into sticks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or parsley
  • 1 tablespoon water optional, for steaming

Instructions

Prepare the Carrots

  • Peel the carrots and cut them into sticks or rounds. Try to make them similar in size for even cooking.

Heat Butter in Pan

  • Melt butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. The butter adds richness and flavor to the carrots.

Add Carrots

  • Add the prepared carrots to the pan. Stir well to coat them in melted butter. Cook for 2–3 minutes.

Add Sugar and Seasoning

  • Sprinkle brown sugar, salt, black pepper and thyme over the carrots. Stir gently to coat evenly.

Cook and Glaze

  • Cook the carrots over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let the sugar melt and form a light glaze over the carrots.

Optional Steaming

  • If carrots are too firm, add 1 tablespoon water and cover the pan for 3–4 minutes. This helps soften them without losing flavor.

Check Doneness

  • Carrots should be tender but slightly crisp. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. The glaze should coat each piece beautifully.

Serve Hot

  • Transfer the glazed carrots to a serving dish. Sprinkle extra parsley or thyme for garnish. Serve immediately alongside your main course.

Notes

  • Use honey instead of brown sugar for a natural sweetness.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm flavor twist.
  • Roast carrots in the oven with butter and sugar for deeper flavor.
  • Try adding garlic or shallots for extra aroma.
  • Use fresh herbs like rosemary or parsley for a fresher taste.
