This healthy, pina colada inspired smoothie is sweet and satisfying without having a ton of added sugar. I love having smoothies in the morning for a quick and healthy breakfast, but it shocking how much sugar is added to some of the pre-bottled smoothies at the grocery store.
I also decided to add kefir to this smoothie. Kefir is a yogurt-like dairy product that is full of natural probiotics which help to improve digestion. Kefir also happens to be naturally lactose free for people who are lactose intolerant. You can find it in pretty much any grocery store in the dairy section (normally near the yogurt and it comes in a variety of flavors. I like to just use plain and add in whatever fruit I feel like having that day. If for some reason you can't find kefir, plain greek yogurt makes a good substitute. Here is the brand of kefir I use ----->
Also, because this smoothie doesn't contain any added sugar, it isn't overly sweet. If you are use to fruit smoothies that contain a lot of sugar, you might want to add in some honey or use sweetened coconut milk. Also, if you don't have chia seeds they aren't 100% necessary, but I love to use them for added fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. If you are going to buy them, you can usually find them a lot cheaper in the bulk section of your grocery store instead of the health food section.
